Chances are, you don’t need us to tell you how important SPF is to your daily skin care routine. But there’s more that you can – and should! – do for your skin during the hot summer months.
DRINK UP: Increasing your water intake to prevent dehydration has a multitude of health benefits, including keeping your skin looking plump and youthful, and maintaining a healthy balance of oil and water in the skin. When you’re dehydrated, that balance is disrupted and can lead to clogged pores and blemishes. Adding lemons to your water can increase the skin-boosting benefits and cleanse your liver – we like to make a big pitcher of lemon water and keep it in the fridge, it’s the perfect refresher on a hot day.
GET SCRAMBLED: Add eggs to your diet (just make sure they are free range and organic)! Eggs are a complete source of protein, and protein helps to repair free radical damage in skin cells caused by overexposure to sun. They also contain biotin, an essential vitamin that protects against dry skin – so whether you take them scrambled, fried, over easy or hard boiled, you’re doing your skin a favor.
PROTECT: Invest in a chic wide-brimmed sunhat and make it your constant companion. While SPF is a necessary first step to sun protection, a floppy hat can help provide an extra barrier against harsh UV rays, and will to guard the delicate skin around your ears, scalp, and neck. And when the heat allows, long sleeves are your best bet for maximum protection – every opportunity to protect your skin is an opportunity to prevent sun damage that can lead to skin cancer.
TONE: Sunshine, chlorine, and cocktails: all of these summer staples can make for a trying combination on your skin. Our gentle rosewater-based toner helps to restore your skin’s natural pH balance after cleansing, while gently exfoliating the skin and whisking away dead skin cells. It’s a great way to reset at the end of the day and before you head out in the morning.
TREAT AND SOOTHE: If you happen to experience overexposure to the sun (accidents happen!), soothe and calm any redness and pain with our No. 1 Aknari Serum. The heart of our formula is the prickly pear seed oil that Moroccan women have used for centuries to counteract the effects of sun damage and aging. A few drops deliver powerful results!
Whether this summer takes you to picnics in the park or island hopping in the Caribbean, make skin protection a priority. Your future self will thank you!
