To kick off our new travel beauty series (just in time for the launch of our Travel Set), we asked our very own Munemi to break down what she does before, during, and after her flight from Honolulu to NYC. A professional makeup artist with over 20 years of experience under her belt, Munemi is an avid traveler for both business and pleasure. In fact, it was a trip to Morocco that inspired the formulation of our Aknari Serum and led to the launch of MŪN. The particular trip she describes below is one she makes often as she’s based in Hawaii and the MŪN office is in New York - it’s safe to say she has perfected this travel beauty routine!


The Frequent Flyer: Munemi Imai, MŪN Founder, 43, Combination Skin


The Trip: Honolulu to NYC, Duration: 11-12 hours


The Routine:


The day before departure: As I pack, I put on a DIY french green clay mask (recipe below) blended with essential oil to deep cleanse my pores and refresh my skin.


For the red-eye flight to LA: I bring my MŪN Travel Set on board with several cotton pads. I spray 8 mists of Anarose Toner onto a cotton pad and wipe my entire face. If I have a light base makeup or sunscreen on, I remove them with this method. Once my face is clean, I use one more cotton pad soaked with toner and rest it on any areas that are particularly prone to dryness for a few seconds. Then I apply a drop of Aknari Serum all over my face and neck. I use Henne lip balm on my lips. I make sure that I have a water bottle, then I go to sleep.


At LAX, early morning: I cleanse and tone my skin using a cotton pad with Anarose Toner, then apply Aknari Serum all over my face and neck again. I also apply a tinted moisturizer with SPF (Suntegrity "5 In 1" Natural Moisturizing Face Sunscreen - Tinted, Broad Spectrum SPF 30) for a daytime flight as UVA rays come through the windows (the UV are a lot stronger at that elevation). I also grab a green juice before boarding the connecting flight.


During the flight: I drink a lot of water. I also always choose an aisle seat. I warm a drop of Aknari between my palms and gently apply with press motion over my base makeup. The beauty of Aknari Serum is that you can reapply this way over your makeup throughout the day to refresh makeup and give your skin an extra glow. When my hands gets dry, I apply a drop of our Pure Argan OilI also carry on RMS Beauty “Un” Cover-up for a quick touch up before I deplane.


When I arrive in NYC, early evening: After dinner, I take a nice warm shower. Before hopping into the shower, I apply Akwi Purifying Cleanser on my face and massage, then rinse off in the shower. After the shower, I moisturize my entire body with Ayour Body Toning Serum while my skin is still damp, especially focusing on my old stretch marks on the thigh area and wrinkles on my knees. Then Anarose Toner and Aknari Serum again for my face. I take Melatonin to go to sleep so I’m rested for work the next morning (there is a 6 hour time difference in summer, 5 hours in winter).

Munemi’s DIY Green Mask Recipe


½ tablespoon french green clay (you can order some here)

1 drop each essential oils of Lavender, Frankincense and Tea Tree

⅔ tablespoon water

8 sprays of Anarose Hydrating Rose Toner

¼ tablespoon raw honey


Mix well before applying onto dry or damp skin. Leave on for 15-20min and rinse off with water.
