Ingredient Spotlight: Rose Oil Benefits in Skin Care

Rose Oil is Packed with Vitamins, Minerals, Antioxidants and Amino Acids

Read Time: 3 - 4 Minutes

Stop by any flower shop and take a deep breath. Do you smell the roses? Their scent is iconic and their symbol stately, but did you know that Rose Oil also packs a punch when it comes to benefiting your skin?

It’s no wonder Rose Oil has made its way into so many skin care products. It is packed with an array of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and amino acids, all of which aid in treating common skin conditions such as aging, redness and even adult acne. This versatile oil is perfect for all skin types and its soothing effects also make it great for those with sensitive skin. Below, we explore the benefits of Rose Oil in skin care and beyond.

But first, where is the best Rose Oil sourced?

Kazanlak is a Bulgarian town in the Stara Zagora Province located at the foot of the Balkan mountain range. It is here, in the Bulgarian Rose Valley, where Bulgarian rose oil has been produced from the flower petals of the Bulgarian Rosa Damascena for over 300 years. The Bulgarian Rosa Damascena varietal is also grown in Turkey. These two regions yield the best quality Rose Oil due to their perfect soil and climate conditions.

How is it sourced?

Rose Oil is produced through steam distillation of fresh roses that are picked in the early morning to help preserve their delicate scent. The cultivation of this wonderful oil requires hard work and a lot of patience. However, as you’ll learn below, Rose Oil boasts so many benefits that the results are well worth the complicated process they require.

Why is it so costly?

The process of extracting the oil from the petals of the Bulgarian Rose Damascena (one of the rarest flowers in the world) is the most labor intensive process in the entire rose industry, thus influencing the overall production as well as the resulting price. In fact, it takes 4 tons of roses to make just 1 kg of Rose Oil.

Since harvesting can only be done in May, this seasonal job typically requires hiring workers from outside the regions where the rose plantations are situated, therefore adding to the increased labor costs.

The extremely limited yearly supply (3000 to 4500 kg) not only makes it one of the most precious Essential Oils in the world, but also particularly pricey due to the recent uptick in demand for use in skin care and fragrance products.

How is Rose Oil used in aromatherapy?

Widely used for its aromatherapeutic benefits, Rose Oil has been shown to reduce stress when applied on the skin. Several studies have also linked it to improvements in those dealing with anxiety and depression. While roses themselves are synonymous with romance, their scent is also commonly used in aromatherapy as an aphrodisiac.

Feeling stressed or need a little brain boost? Try applying a drop or two of diluted Rose Oil to your wrist and inhale the scent as needed. You can also add a few drops to your bath salt the next time you’re getting ready for a soak (Essential Oils need to be mixed with a carrier such as bath salts in order to be effective when added to water).

What are the benefits of incorporating Rose Oil into your skin care routine?

Often referred to as “liquid gold” or the “queen of all oils,” this oil is great for use on all skin types, including sensitive skin. Rich in gifts from mother nature, Rose Oil helps promote beautiful, radiant skin. Read on for specifics.

How does Rose Oil help reduce inflammation and acne flare-ups?

When treating acne your first thought might be to reach for a product that dries out your skin to combat the oily surface where acne tends to thrive. However, using these common acne solutions, which involve harsh peels and acids, can result in dehydrated and over-sensitized skin. Opt for Rose Oil instead as it has been proven as an excellent treatment for acne-prone skin due to its antiseptic and astringent properties. Its anti-inflammatory benefits will also help those that struggle with acne, inflammation and/or skin redness.

Believe it or not, acne-prone skin needs to be kept hydrated rather than dried out. Lack of moisture sends a signal to your skin to produce more sebum, therefore continuing the vicious breakout cycle. Look for a face serum containing Rose Oil to tap into its acne-fighting benefits while moisturizing. Naturally, our Aknari Brightening Youth Serum comes to mind.

How can Rose Oil reduce signs of aging?

Rose Oil visibly helps refine your skin’s texture, which aids in combating aging and dry skin. The therapeutic compounds present in the oil also help control many skin conditions such as dermatitis and psoriasis. Bonus: the antioxidants in Rose Oil will absorb deeply into the dermis layer of the skin, which is especially beneficial for mature skin.

Discover how you can reap the many benefits of Rose Oil with our Aknari Brightening Youth Serum. This serum contains Rose Oil combined with Prickly Pear Seed Oil and Argan Oil. Applying it daily, will help make your skin appear plumper and brighter, leaving it with a lasting healthy glow.
